The Nutcracker is choreographed by Doreen Cafarella and is acclaimed as New Hampshire's most spectacular holiday family tradition. Families, organizations, and businesses eagerly await NBT's annual production.
The Nutcracker story is over 150 years old and tells the story of the toy maker and magician Herr Drosselmeyer who's nephew has been imprisoned as a small Nutcracker Doll by the wicked Queen of the Mice. For the spell to be broken the Mouse Queen must be killed and a beautiful girl must fall in love with the Nutcracker despite his ugly appearance. Drosselmeyer attends a Christmas Party at his Goddaughter Clara's home and he takes Clara into a world of magic and illusion where Clara helps him free his nephew. As a reward, Drosselmeyer takes Clara through the Land of the Snow to the Land of the Sugar Plum Fairy. There wonderful entertainments are arranged. As the illusions end, Drosselmeyer finds that the spell has truly been broken. The audience, young and old, remains forever enchanted.
