NBT's Opening Season Performance is a program perfectly suited to the attention span of our youngest audience member, yet sophisticated enough for the most discerning adult.

NBT will present an abbreviated version of the delightful story ballet, Sleeping Beauty.

NBT first presented Sleeping in October of 2003. The company received a grant from the McLean Foundation. The generous grant gave NBT the opportunity to have magnificent sets and costumes designed.

In keeping with NBT's mission to educate and introduce the art of dance to New Hampshire, interaction with our audience is an important part of this type of performance. Fifteen minutes before the curtain goes up, the Artistic Director, Doreen Cafarella, will give a brief history of the ballet, such as when it was first performed, the composer of the music and the choreographer who first told this enchanting story through dance. The director will also get the audience involved in a discussion about the story. Young audience members are always very willing to express their thoughts. This usually results in a lively entertaining conversation.

The Performance lasts approximately one hour. After the performance, the Artistic Director and dancers will return to the stage. The audience members will have an opportunity to ask the dancers questions. Also a photo opportunity may be possible with the dancers.

This program will certainly entertain and introduce the audience to the magical world of classical ballet.
